The ESA is the energy industry's joint safety instruction to avoid accidents caused by electricity, and is a way for employers working against the electricity grid industry to comply with the Work Environment Act. Our training ESA Electrical work (formerly Fackkunnig) gives you the right knowledge about the industry's adaptation of the Swedish Standard's instructions for safe work on electrical installations. Recurring - Aimed at personnel who have already completed basic training. Recurring training must be carried out every three years.

• Explanation of the responsibilities and roles of different groups
• The function of the various professional roles in the workplace
• Risk management – risk assessment and risk treatment.
• Electrical hazard, current flow and arcing.
• Choice of work method: Dead working, Live working and work within the vicinity zone.
• Safe communication in the workplace.

The training is aimed at skilled personnel at power grid facilities such as electricians, power grid technicians, and inspectors.

Performed according to Energiföretagen’s (Swedish Energy’s) requirements specification for Wattityd.
Maximum 16 participants.
A fee for certification and training materials, ranging from 495-995 SEK, will be added and paid to Energiföretagen, depending on whether the participant already has access to the publication.
The course concludes with a digital final exam
Gitlighetstid
Certificates of approved completed ESA training are obtained after completion of the training session from the trade association Energiföretagen. The certificate is valid for 3 years.

What is EBR-ESA Skilled – Recurring?
EBR-ESA Skilled – Recurring is a refresher training for electrically skilled personnel who have previously completed ESA Skilled – Basic. It ensures continued competence and compliance with ESA requirements.
Who should attend ESA Skilled – Recurring?
This course is intended for skilled personnel such as electricians, power grid technicians and inspectors who already hold a valid ESA Skilled certificate and need to renew it.
How often must ESA Skilled training be renewed?
ESA Skilled certification must be renewed every three years through a recurring (refresher) training course.
What is the difference between ESA Skilled – Basic and ESA Skilled – Recurring?
ESA Skilled – Basic is for first-time participants.
ESA Skilled – Recurring is a mandatory refresher course required to maintain certification after the initial three-year validity period.
Is ESA Skilled – Recurring mandatory?
In most power grid and electrical installation environments, yes. Employers and grid owners require valid ESA certification, and recurring training is necessary to maintain validity.
What topics are reviewed in the recurring training?
The course revisits:
- ESA Principles and ESA Work
- roles and responsibilities
- risk assessment and risk treatment
- electrical hazards, current flow and arc flash
- choice of work method (dead, live and vicinity work)
- safe communication
The focus is on updating knowledge and reinforcing safe working practices.
Do participants need prior experience?
Yes. Participants must already be experienced in working within electrical installations and have completed ESA Skilled – Basic previously.
Does the recurring course include new updates to ESA?
Yes. The recurring training includes updates to ESA guidelines, clarifications of responsibilities and reinforcement of current safety standards.
What happens if ESA Skilled certification expires?
If certification expires:
- access to electrical installations may be restricted
- work permits may not be issued
- the employer may not meet safety compliance requirements
Renewal through recurring training is required to remain certified.
How long is the certificate valid after recurring training?
After completing ESA Skilled – Recurring, the certificate is valid for another 3 years.
Does the recurring training allow live working?
The course covers work methods, including live working. However, live working always depends on company procedures, risk assessments and additional method-specific competence.
Is the course theoretical or practical?
The training combines theory, discussion of real-life scenarios and concludes with a digital final exam.
