Om utbildningen
The ESA is the energy industry's joint safety instruction to avoid accidents caused by electricity, and is a way for employers working against the electricity grid industry to comply with the Work Environment Act. Our training ESA Electrical work (formerly Fackkunnig) gives you the right knowledge about the industry's adaptation of the Swedish Standard's instructions for safe work on electrical installations. Basic training - Aimed at personnel who have never attended a training course in ESA Skilled before.

ESA-Principles:19 and ESA-Work:19.
– Explanation of the responsibilities and roles of different groups
– The function of the various professional roles in the workplace
– Risk management – risk assessment and risk treatment.
– Electrical hazard, current flow and arcing.
– Choice of work method: Dead working, Live working and work within the vicinity zone.
– Safe communication in the workplace.

The training is aimed at skilled personnel at power grid facilities such as electricians, power grid technicians, inspectors and preparers.

Performed according to Energiföretagen’s (Swedish Energy’s) requirements specification for Wattityd.
Maximum 16 participants.
A fee for certification and training materials, ranging from 495-995 SEK, will be added and paid to Energiföretagen, depending on whether the participant already has access to the publication.
The course concludes with a digital final exam
Gitlighetstid
Certificates of approved completed ESA training are obtained after completion of the training session from the trade association Energiföretagen. The certificate is valid for 3 years.

What is EBR-ESA Skilled – Basic?
EBR-ESA Skilled – Basic is an ESA training course for electrically skilled personnel working in the energy sector in Sweden. It provides the knowledge required to safely perform work in electrical installations according to ESA principles.
ESA is based on the european standard EN 50110-1, and is the adoption of the standard for the swedish energy sector.
Who is this training intended for?
The course is intended for skilled personnel such as:
- electricians
- power grid technicians
- inspectors
- preparers
- other professionals working in electrical installations
Participants must already have experience working in electrical environments.
What does “Skilled” mean in ESA?
In ESA terminology, a skilled person is someone with sufficient education, experience and competence to independently assess electrical risks and perform work in electrical installations.
Is this course suitable for non-skilled workers?
No. Non-skilled workers should attend ESA E2 Instructed Person instead. ESA Skilled – Basic is specifically for electrically skilled personnel.
What is covered in the ESA Skilled – Basic training?
The course includes:
- ESA Principles and ESA Work
- roles and responsibilities
- risk assessment and risk treatment
- electrical hazards, current flow and arc flash
- selection of work method (dead working, live working, work within the vicinity zone)
- safe communication in the workplace
What is the difference between ESA Skilled – Basic and ESA Skilled – Recurring?
ESA Skilled – Basic is intended for participants who have not previously attended ESA Skilled training. ESA Skilled – Recurring is a refresher course for those who already hold a valid ESA Skilled certificate.
How long is the certificate valid?
The ESA Skilled – Basic certificate is valid for 3 years after approved completion of the training.
Is ESA Skilled – Basic mandatory for working in power grid facilities?
In most power grid environments, ESA training is mandatory. Employers and grid owners typically require valid ESA certification before allowing work in electrical installations.
What responsibilities are addressed in the training?
The training clarifies the responsibilities of different professional roles within electrical work, including how duties are distributed and how safety is ensured within the organisation.
Does this training allow live working?
The course explains the different work methods, including live working. However, whether live working is permitted depends on company policy, risk assessment and additional method-specific training.
Is prior knowledge required?
Yes. Participants must have experience working in electrical installations and be able to independently assess electrical risks.
What happens if ESA Skilled training is not completed?
Without valid ESA Skilled certification:
- access to electrical installations may be denied
- work permits may not be issued
- the employer may not meet legal safety requirements
Is the course theoretical or practical?
The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical examples and concludes with a digital final exam.
